Our story

The Poppy House was a steady prayer long before it existed as a space in Valley Mills.

In August 2024, we took our annual "escape the Texas heat" trip and flew up to Maine with our two toddler girls in tow. We came home with a renewed appreciation for the simple gift of having space to disconnect from the rhythms and routines of life, to gather joyfully and rest intentionally.

We weren't sure of the details of those early prayers, but we knew we felt called to create this same experience for others. We feel deeply honored for the answered prayer we now get to steward. From the very beginning, we've known this property wasn’t just for us, but a place to share.

It's truly a joy for us to welcome you here.

We know there’s no place like home, but we hope this is a close second.

What we’re rooted in

Honoring God. This is our first and highest priority at The Poppy House. We believe everything we have comes from Him – not just our things; our dreams, our gifts, our excitement for hosting others. Our greatest desire is to steward all that He’s given us and point it back to Christ. (1 Peter 4:10)

Prioritizing Family. We love getting to run this property as a family. But more important than the success of our business is our family itself. We choose to protect our marriage and invite our kids into our work even when it slows us down. For those who come to The Poppy House with their family, we hope it offers you the space to enjoy slow mornings together, soak in great conversation over long dinners, and simply find joy in being with one another.

Hosting Comfortably. We like to say, ‘We know there’s no place like home, but we hope The Poppy House is a close second.’ Comfort lives in the details: from the simplicity of check-in to the ease of finding the pack n’ play or wine glasses at your arrival. Our hope is that you feel at ease from the moment you walk in, and that you find yourself planning the next visit before you've even left.

Cultivating Joy & Rest. The Poppy House is a place to step away. To slow down, get outside, and connect with the people you love. We believe true rest and deep joy are found in the unhurried moments, when we set down our doing and remember the One who made us. Our prayer is that you find these moments easily during your stay.
